The Village Barber and Supply Shop-0028

Back Alley Barbershop set the bar for a premium barbershop experience. The unrushed service, beautifully restored vintage barber chairs, great music, excellent reading material and complimentary drink have made men look forward to their next hair cut. They also carried grooming products from brands men actually wanted to use. But with so many heads to cut and only so few seats available an expansion was looming.

The same guys behind Back Alley Barbershop recently opened The Village Barber and Supply Shop in Bonifacio Global City. The new concept is a better fit for township developments as there aren’t exactly a lot of “back alleys” around. The Village Barber and Supply Shop is based on the successful formula developed and perfected at Back Alley Barbershop. The manager, Raf, tells me that there will be more than just grooming products for sale. There are books and beverages both alcoholic and non-alcoholic: COO craft sodas from EDSA Beverage Design Studio, Hitachino White Ale, Blue Moon and Gordon Biersch.

The Village Barber and Supply Shop is located at the second floor of Forbes Town Center overlooking the fairways of the Manila Golf and Country Club. With floor-to-ceiling glass windows and the sun shining into the shop, the ambiance is bright and airy. It feels great looking at wide spaces of green in a metropolis that is largely devoid of it. There is plenty of wood and metal everywhere with copper sprinkled all over. A nice touch that breaks the monotony.

Aside from the cut and shave, The Village Barber and Supply Shop introduced new services based on feedback from customers and barbers. The result is the “Fonzie” and “Paint It, Black”. The Fonzie is a deep cleansing of the scalp designed with the heavy pomade user in mind. Meanwhile, “Paint It, Black” is a hair color treatment for men who don’t want to have their hair coloured in a salon. Each service comes with your choice of hand pressed coffee or Asahi Super Dry.

I tried the Fonzie which is perfect for me as I use pomade frequently. It uses L’Oreal’s Serioxyl scalp cleansing treatment which contains glycolic acid, the same ingredient used in many face peeling products. The fluid is applied directly to the scalp and massaged for about 15 minutes. It removes the build up of pomades and promotes healthy hair growth while giving a cooling effect. After the treatment my scalp feels thoroughly clean and refreshed, ready for another round of almost daily pomade use.

If you like going to Back Alley Barbershop you will feel right at home in The Village Barber and Supply Shop.
