Tucked away in the charming neighborhood of Ann Siang Hill is SWAGGER. It’s a lifestyle boutique for men and is the passion project of Stan Lee whose main business is public relations. SWAGGER carries a wide selection of goods for the discerning gentleman: ready-to-wear apparel and accessories, leather goods, literature, vintage collectibles and grooming products. The shop carries a great selection of brands some of which are only stocked at SWAGGER in this part of the world. It’s a bit quirky but what ties them all together is the handcraft, heritage and uniqueness.
SWAGGER offers ready-to-wear clothing and footwear but people who want to look more distinctive would want to check out their custom-made offerings. You can customise suits, shirts and shoes with different materials and styles to choose from. All customised products are handmade in Singapore.
On the casual side of things there are jeans by Raleigh Denim Workshop, ready-to-wear clothes by Empire’s Union and swimwear by Onia. I have seen the rise of better made swim shorts and Onia is one of the brands I would consider buying because of their designs and reasonable price.
The selection of carry goods are what truly stands out at SWAGGER. They carry bags and accessories by Lotuff Leather, Bonastre and Wood & Faulk. When the popularity of workwear surged a few years back Wood & Faulk was one of the brands that caught my attention then.
For grooming products they have Portland General Store. I have used their whiskey shave jelly and aftershave before. For a time they carried Truefitt and Hill but the brand opened their flagship store just a few steps away so they no longer carry it.
One of the items that really caught my eye was the cufflinks by A Cuff in Time Saves Nine. They have vintage cufflinks from the 1950s and cufflinks made from rare watch parts including their original ruby jewels. They are available in gold, rose gold or silver and are sure to be a conversation piece.
A man would not be complete without a well-stocked bookshelf and SWAGGER has that covered. The selection is not too nerdy but has books that you can easily pick up from time to time. I fancied this book titled “The Gentleman’s Beside Companion”. Stan was kind enough to give it to me and have enjoyed reading it. It’s full of these bit-sized reads that’s both entertaining and packed with new albeit sometimes useless knowledge.
Rounding out the offerings are SWAGGER’s own line of accessories and vintage collectibles. You can choose from a variety of ties, lapel pins, walking sticks, umbrellas and jewellery. Stan’s love for the finer things in life is reflected in the vintage collectibles on sale. They come from the art deco era and the mid-century modern age. If you loved the movie The Great Gatsby you’ll want to get some of the pieces being sold here.
Ann Siang Hill is an area in Singapore I recommend visiting for their unique shops with SWAGGER being one of them. If you’re in the area it’s absolutely worth dropping by.
