I always look forward to the end of season sales of U.S. retailers. They deeply discount their merchandise with mark downs and discount codes — unlike Philippine retailers. I keep my eyes on the summer collections as they are a great way to pick up items to wear on the weekend or at the beach.
Last month I struck gold while I was shopping on J. Crew. Two shirts that were originally priced at USD 75 and USD 88 were marked down to USD 39.99. I also saw a pair of Japanese chambray shorts (which I’ve wanted for a while now) originally priced at USD 69.50 were now USD 59.50.
It was an “okay” deal but then J. Crew offered a discount code with an additional 40% off which made it even better. It brought down the price of the shirts to USD 19.99 each and the Japanese chambray shorts to USD 35.7. The total for all three items including shipping to a U.S-based address and taxes was USD 88.75. Not bad!
To ship my items to the Philippines I used Shipping Cart, a consolidation and freight forwarding service that delivers items bought from the U.S. to your door step. Upon signing-up I was given my personalized U.S.-based address which I specified when I checked-out on J. Crew.
When my package from J. Crew arrived at the warehouse of Shipping Cart its contents were taken a photo of and uploaded to the Shipping Cart website. After I checked that everything was in order I had them shipped to the Philippines via air cargo. I paid a total of Php 916; approximately Php 470 (USD 10) for the fixed fee which delivers my package to Luzon and Php 446 for the chargeable weight. It’s a very good price to pay considering I would pay around Php 1,500 with other freight forwarders.
I shipped my items on November 5 with an estimated delivery date between November 15 and 20. I would occasionally receive emails of the status of my shipment which is a big help. To my surprise my package arrived a day earlier than estimated and right before the 2015 APEC Summit in Manila. They are faster than other freight forwarders by about 2-3 days and that makes a huge difference.
