My favorite pair of chinos is almost at the end of its life so I decided to look for a new pair to replace them. I looked at various American brands as they are the ones that offer chinos with a fuller cut and sit on the natural waist. Out of all the brands Brooks Brothers stood out with their Advantage Chinos. They have the Hudson fit that is a relaxed fit with flat fronts and is worn on the natural waist. Brooks Brothers in the Philippines doesn’t offer the Hudson fit so I figured it would be better to buy from online store in the U.S. and have it shipped here.

Luckily, Brooks Brothers held a Father’s Day sale event when I made my purchase. The sale event brought down the price of their Advantage Chinos by 30%. It went down to USD 62.65 from the original price of USD 89.50. With taxes and shipping the entire order amounted to USD 84.59 (Php 3,833.61). I paid using Globe GCash American Express Virtual Pay and had it shipped to My Shopping Box in California. Shopping online from U.S. stores has the advantage of access to frequent sales and a wider range of products.

I was not able to try on this pair of chinos so I wasn’t sure how well they would fit. I was prepared to have some alterations done but to my surprise they fit quite well. Usually these kinds of trousers have a very wide leg opening but for this pair it was just right because I was able to select the hem length at purchase. I selected a conservative inseam hem of 30″ and still found it too long. I could have selected a 29″ hem but if it arrived too short I wouldn’t be able to fix it. I didn’t expect that trousers with a relaxed fit would look flattering. The heavier cotton twill they used certainly helps them drape better.

Brooks Brothers Advantage Chinos are finished better compared to chinos from other brands at the same price points. The crotch is lined to help prevent blowouts from happening. The edges are lined except the ones down the leg. I prefer slanting pockets but on seam pockets provide a cleaner look. The enzyme wash they applied makes them soft and comfortable to wear while keeping wrinkles at bay. I’m really happy with these chinos that I’m already thinking about getting my next pair. Or two.
